Recently I attended the NAIOP Economic Series Impact Workshop on August 11th, 2017 with roughly 35 other attendees. The topic was “Breakthroughs in the Medical District & Beyond.” Interestingly enough, I have attended previous events throughout this year with the topic, but this one felt different. This atmosphere, this setting, this panel was much more intimate. I felt like the audience was much more engaged and able to interact with the panelists. I heard questions asked that I haven’t heard asked before. To me, there is a lot of value in these NAIOP Education events. Community Service Committee Update – September

Thank you to the Membership Committee, Community Service Committee & Bowling Tournament attendees! Our raffle raised over $1,400 which will be distributed between a number of organizations that NAIOP assists. Thank you again!

The thank yous don’t stop there. We had another very successful clothing and tie drive for our ‘Knot Tied Down’ summer drive. Donations will benefit graduating students through the Communities In Schools organization that gives underprivileged kids business attire for graduation and job interviews. Read more

Leadership Change

Our President-Elect Jeff Foster is undertaking a role shift within Prologis which unfortunately for NAIOP will preclude him from serving as President Elect for 2018. He will remain a member and finish his term on the Board. A long-time pillar of the NAIOP Southern Nevada Chapter, we appreciate Jeff’s dedication and energy while on the Board.

The Board of Directors has appointed Mike Mixer as President-Elect. Mike is the Executive Managing Director and co-founder of the Colliers International Las Vegas office. He has been a NAIOP member since the 1990’s and has served on the Board for the past 3 years. Mike is actively involved in the Membership Committee.

Thank you to Mike for stepping up and taking on the challenge. We look forward to supporting and working alongside him next year as he serves as Chapter President.

Who Needs Big Box, Anyway!?

Sustainable Tip

LED Bulbs use 90% less energy than standard bulbs, generate light at 87.2 degrees and have a lifespan of an estimated 15,000 hours. Standard bulbs typically generate light at 335.4 degrees and have a lifespan of 1,000 hours.

LEDs do cost more up front but in order to match a typical 13.5 year life span of an LED bulb, a person would need to purchase 14 standard bulbs and would spend approximately $80 more in energy costs. Not to mention the cost savings in terms of the labor to switch out all of the lights.

So while the upfront costs of LED bulbs are higher, the long term energy and cost savings can be significant for businesses that require significant lighting.
