1.    How has NAIOP helped develop your business over the years?
First of all, the major help has come through the legislative efforts. I can remember working with Tim Snow on a wide variety of critical issues – me on the contractor side and Tim on the developer side – and we always found the middle ground. Then, through the forums as they were very helpful because it taught me to look at a project through the developer’s eyes, what ROI means and the difference in each developer’s goals and aspirations for the project success. The Education Committee hosted its first ever “Mock Trial” at the Regional Justice Center in early November. Sponsored by Prologis, it was a smashing success! After refreshments and an open bar in the courthouse lobby, members migrated to the 11th floor to sit in an actual courtroom to watch as the Honorable Judge Scotty presided over the trial.  Read more

Regardless of your political beliefs, the markets were expecting a specific election outcome. According to experts* from public policy, global economics, and Wall Street forecasting, the overwhelming consensus was a Clinton Democratic presidential win but a Republican held House. This split government was expected to produce one of the best possible compromises for the economy: global corporate tax reform, which the Republicans want and infrastructure spending, which the Democrats want. If the country can do both of these in the next two years, our growth could tick up. Otherwise we are looking at a continued growth of between 1-3%. The Trump win and Republican sweep of Congress will create much greater volatility and uncertainty. Expect to have many more swings up and down in the coming year. Read more

The business relationships forged as a participant in NAIOP events have introduced me to many potential clients.  My participation on various committees has allowed me to get to know some of the right people in development and enhance my knowledge of them as a person.  At one point in time, I could look at our project list and clearly see that every client was a NAIOP member. This notable event encourages and recognizes distinguished commercial real estate development in Southern Nevada. NAIOP Southern Nevada’s Bus Tour Committee successfully put on the 2016 “A Whole New Ball Game” Bus Tour in October. The event showcased a mix of 31 industrial, office and retail projects that were recently completed, under construction or planned for future development. Read more
