On the anniversary of the 1 October shooting, NAIOP Southern Nevada remembers and continues to send our deepest and heartfelt thoughts to all the victims and those impacted by the tragedy.

The Community Service Committee is collecting canned goods, non-perishable food & paper supplies at the October 18th breakfast meeting for Helping Hands of Vegas Valley. These donations help low-income senior citizens in the valley who often have to make a choice between eating, buying prescriptions or paying necessary bills to remain independent in their own home. Tiah was a committed proponent of our chapter and a vital member of the Golf Committee for a number of years. In 2015, she received the Rayburn P. Jones Memorial Trophy as a volunteer that exemplifies “the spirit of the game”. We will miss her tenacity to make things happen, her wit in all circumstances and above all, her honest and enduring friendship.

The DLI class of 2018 is coming to an end! This week we had our last and final class on, “The Strip Impacts on Commercial Real Estate.” The class was held at Cushman & Wakefield’s office and sponsored by Prologis. John Restrepo, President of RCG Economics instructed.
Throughout the class, we learned about key factors that make the strip important to our local economy such as: travel data, convention space and revenue per visitor and per room. We also looked at key indicators for building new resorts on the strip such as gaming revenue and room availability.
The importance of the strip to commercial real estate was apparent despite southern Nevada’s push for diversification. With 1,000 new rooms coming online by 2020 and nearly a million square feet of convention space, we are set up for potential growth. The caveat to that is… does it actually happen? Are the major resorts that are talked about on track to hit construction deadlines or are these projects holding to see what happens with the economy and the changes in gaming revenue.
Mr. Restrepo drove home the fact that although experience oriented and restaurant related revenues have increased dramatically, 30% of the of the revenue on the strip still originates from gaming. The overarching question being, how does this affect off the strip development and most of all our DLI project’s feasibility!

Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in Las Vegas?
I am originally from Mesa, Arizona and moved to Las Vegas when I was 2 years old, not Battle Born, but Battle Raised!
What has NAIOP provided you that has helped you grow professionally or personally?
NAIOP has helped my career in many ways. It has provided me access to key leaders within the commercial real estate industry resulting in exposure to prospective projects and business deals. With 51 chapters across the country, there are a multitude of resources that I tap into for market education, strategic network opportunities, and industry trends. In turn, I utilize these innovative tools to provide Martin-Harris a broader spectrum of the latest industry trends on a national level. This allows Martin-Harris to remain cutting edge in the Southern Nevada market, as well as a continued leader within our community.
What has been your favorite experience or story that happened at NAIOP event?
My favorite experience at NAIOP would easily be taking part in the NAIOP Developing Leaders Institute, specifically with my project team. Not only did I garner a great deal from each of my teammates, but we were able to establish a lifelong friendship that I will carry with me throughout my career.
Who have you met at NAIOP event that has influenced you or that you have become close friends with?
I am unable to limit my associations to just one individual of influence as I have met so many amazing and influential people in the industry, all who I call friends today.
What do you want your legacy to be in the Southern Nevada Community?
My goal is to further influence the Southern Nevada Community in leading by example and being a good mentor. I would like to be remembered as a respectable trail-blazer who upheld a strong community presence with integrity and humility. Someone with a good moral compass.
The most powerful legacy I want to leave is for new members to be confident, audacious and committed individuals who will pursue their dreams, regardless of the status quo. I hope to show the incumbents that it’s respectable to chart their own course in life rather than succumbing to an all too familiar path to nowhere! I live my life as confidently as I can and that is my legacy.

Bowling balls, pizza, team spirit, beer and more beer were the key ingredients to a successful NAIOP bowling tournament this year. Many teams rocked the score board while others had those special players who dominated the competition. As you walked up and down the lanes you could see the high fives and the triumphant gestures as each player turned to face his or her team after a successful strike or simply avoiding the gutter. Both outcomes were worth cheering for, especially since the teams who didn’t have a shot were laughing and cheering each other on even more then the rest. Several companies were sporting team shirts while a stylish gentleman rocked a suit and an expecting mom showed us how it’s done with a baby bump. It was a night of fun and good old-fashioned competition among friends.
A special shout out to our duo Jay Heller and Teresa Vinuya who continued the tradition of selling raffle tickets lane by lane donating beer to raffle ticket buyers. The community service committee is grateful! Teams pooled together this year raising nearly $2,000 with the raffle with all proceeds going to the St. Jude’s Ranch for Children Cottage Renovations. Many thanks to our 15 generous sponsors donating gift cards, baskets, a drone, bottles of alcohol, a tech backpack filled with Amazon Echo adapters & Echo Show and many more!
