Name: Ryan Holden Title: Director of Business Development Company: The Concord Group # years in the industry: 10 years
Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in Las Vegas:
I’m originally from Chicago and have lived in Las Vegas for 5 years now.
What has NAIOP provided you that has helped you grow professionally or personally?
NAIOP has been key in helping me to develop my professional network in Las Vegas.
What has been your favorite experience or story that happened at NAIOP event?
It’s great to meet new and interesting people at every event. NAIOP events are always fruitful.
Who have you met at a NAIOP event that has influenced you or that you have become close friends with?
Micah Durham from Nevada General Construction was my first professional meeting for The Concord Group. He gave me great advise, encouraged me to join and I would definitely consider him a friend.
What do you want your legacy to be in the Southern Nevada community?
I want to be able to drive by significant projects/builds and know that The Concord Group and I were an integral part of delivering those projects and turning plans into reality. I want Nevada to be a better place because I live here.
Name: Brett Rather Title: Principal Company: CAST # years in the industry: 10 years
Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in Las Vegas: A true local of Las Vegas and I am proud to be a third general native! GO REBELS!
What has NAIOP provided you that has helped you grow professionally or personally?
The most important currencies are relationships and reputation. NAIOP gave me the opportunity to meet and bond with the best in the business. NAIOP also holds many education programs and seminars to show each sector of the industry and keep us aware of all the latest trends, technology, deals, and growth throughout the valley. And gaining that knowledge from our industry leaders is what NAIOP is all about.
What has been your favorite experience or story that happened at NAIOP event?
Spotlight Awards is the best night of the year! This business is extremely competitive and this is the one time of year that we all get to dress to the nines and congratulate each other for all of our hard work in striving to create a better City for the future and giving back to our chapter. If you haven’t experienced one of these, mark your calendars for next year!
Who have you met at a NAIOP event that has influenced you or that you have become close friends with?
My business partner Steve Neiger. Before he and I worked with each other, the first thing he told me to do was to get involved in NAIOP. I joined the Membership Committee and still remain on that committee to this day to help new people to the industry learn as it taught me. I started in brokerage by myself, without a team, and the information I gained from NAIOP and the relationships I forged was worth every penny to build my career.
What do you want your legacy to be in the Southern Nevada community?
We really lacked fun and exciting venues in the suburbs when I was growing up here. At CAST, we are going to continue redeveloping and reshaping our city to enhance the everyday lives of locals. I hope to be sitting at one of our future projects one day during happy hour, and seeing everyone around smiling and having a good time. That to me is one of the highest achievements I can aim for. We should all want to leave our career knowing we made an impact that created a better experience for us and for future generations.

A name is the first impression people have of a brand – or of anything, for that matter. Professional associations, just like companies and others, need to make sure that their name best conveys its brand to target audiences.
NAIOP knows this first-hand. In 2008, NAIOP went through an extensive period of research, interviews and member and chapter interaction before rebranding to the NAIOP we know today. The input was varied – some strongly supported a change, while others were not so sure. Chapters in particular were concerned about the cost of rebranding, and also a potential loss of name recognition with lawmakers and other stakeholders.
After all the research and feedback, NAIOP’s Board of Directors and principal members elected to change the association’s name from “National Association of Industrial and Office Properties” to the name most people used anyway – NAIOP (pronounced Ná-opp). With this change, NAIOP became both a word and the official name. The change was effective Jan. 2, 2009. Our chapter’s name is NAIOP Southern Nevada.
To further identify who we are, we added the definer (tagline) of Commercial Real Estate Development Association. This isn’t officially part of the name, but is reflected in our logo and how we describe our association. Including the word “development” in the tagline separates NAIOP from other real estate associations, and nods to the increasing desire to include all professionals who work in our industry.
In the end, the goal was to clarify the vision of NAIOP and more accurately define the membership and our mission. NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, has become the leading organization for developers, owners and investors of office, industrial, retail and mixed-use real estate. NAIOP comprises more than 20,000 members nationwide and provides strong advocacy, education and business opportunities through a powerful North American network.
So, as legendary radio show host Paul Harvey used to say, now you know the rest of the story.
Pro tip: Update your resumes and bios and any press materials using NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, removing outdated references to the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.

I’d like to briefly share my vision for 2024 with you by sharing what NAIOP means to me and my ask of our members.
To me, NAIOP is more than the commercial estate development association. NAIOP is a community of like-minded professionals who want to make an impact. You are members because your willingness to join this chapter is seen and your financial support is appreciated.
NAIOP provides access to NEWS, ADVOCACY, INFORMATION, OPPORTUNITIES and PEOPLE. NAIOP!
To me, NAIOP is the source of the latest CRE NEWS. We are consistently pushing the latest news and information to your inbox or across our social media platforms. Thank you, Chantal and the entire Communications committee.
To me, NAIOP is ADVOCACY! Our aggressive government affairs efforts yield results for our community. In 2023, we took a quantum leap by hiring our own in-house government affairs coordinator and awarded our first Developers Champion Award. Thank you, Steve and your entire GA committee.
To me, NAIOP is INFORMATION. We put on timely and relevant breakfast programs and education programs throughout the year on issues that impact your bottom line and our community. We focus on providing access to the experts, developers, knowledge and tools that help us do more business together. Thank you Dan and the entire programs committee, Jennifer and the education committee, and Jake & Jerry with the Bus Tour committee.
To me, NAIOP is OPPORTUNITIES. We offer countless opportunities to network with industry professionals via our membership mixers, summer mixers, Spotlight Awards and various other events throughout the year. These network opportunities provide visibility to everyone, seasoned and new to the industry. They provide opportunities to strengthen existing relationships and start new ones as well. I can tell you that I haven’t made any major decisions in my professional life without consulting with several of our esteemed members. We are very fortunate to have such a strong and close-knit CRE industry in our community. Thank you to the membership committee, community service committee, golf tournament committee, Spotlight Awards and sponsorships committees for bringing us together.
To me, NAIOP is PEOPLE. Look at the people in our membership. We get to meet, learn and work with some of the most respected people in the industry. NAIOP provides us access to elected officials, policy makers, developers, property managers, lenders, brokers, asset managers, general contractors, subcontractors, industry vendors, and so many more. We also advance our people through our DLI & DOLI programs. Thank you to the DLI committee, DOLI committee and all of the committee chairs and committee members for making this happen.
So, my ask for all of you this year is to think about ways to increase your involvement within the local and national NAIOP organization. I’m proud to say that my involvement at both the local and national level has helped me in so many ways both personally and professionally. By increasing my involvement within the chapter and strengthening my relationships it’s given me the confidence to keep growing knowing that I have a strong network of people around me who support me.
So, say YES more in 2024! Say yes to volunteering! Say yes to new opportunities! Say yes to attending more, doing more and being more! We’re not surviving until 2025, we’re going to THRIVE until 2025!
Join one of our committees and step up. And, the National NAIOP Conference is being held right here in Las Vegas in 2024! I’d love to see our membership show up. Mark your calendars now for October 8-10th at Caesars Palace. Let’s show up and let the rest of the NAIOP chapters know what NAIOP Southern Nevada is about.
